Patrick
Vandiver
Overview
Patrick is an accomplished pianist, singer, and songwriter whose
musical style spans a broad range of genres, including pop,
jazz, rhythm and blues, country and gospel. Whatever the song,
Patrick always delivers an emotional, passionate performance
with rich keyboard styling’s and a powerful, soulful voice much
larger than himself.
The Beginning
Patrick was born and
raised in rural Georgia. Patrick grew up as the middle child of a dairy farmer and a
kindergarten teacher, both of whom were musicians. Throughout Patrick's childhood, music
was always a huge part of Patrick’s home life, and by the age of
5, he was already banging out melodies on the piano along with
8-track tapes playing on the stereo. By the time he was seven,
he was performing for audiences of several hundred. He had an
amazing ability to play back just about anything he heard, and
soon began classical piano training. By age 12, Patrick was
writing and performing his own songs, singing and accompanying
himself on the piano.
The Middle
In his mid-teens,
Patrick won numerous classical piano competitions all over the
state of Georgia. Even so, what he enjoyed most was playing and
singing his own songs, as well as his own arrangements of the
pop hits of the day. His biggest influences at the time were
Lionel Richie, Styx, Journey, and James Ingram.
One summer night just
before his sophomore year in high school, Patrick attended a
worship service in a small church near his home.
“No more than five minutes after the music started, something
happened inside of me that goes beyond anything I can explain.
It was more than an emotional feeling, but something that cut
right to the very heart of who I am. I cried for hours that
night -- it was a deep spiritual experience between God and me,
and He used music to get to me. And it worked. I was honestly
never the same after that.” It was then and there that Patrick
realized the power of music, and he wanted more than anything
for his music to deeply move the listeners.
After graduating high
school, Patrick attended Southeastern College in Lakeland,
Florida, for three semesters before deciding to pursue music
full-time. He joined the staff of Kenneth Hagin Ministries in
Tulsa, Oklahoma where he traveled with the crusade team, serving
as keyboardist/vocalist for over seven years. He graduated
from RHEMA in 1993.
